Living Room Re-Design + The Most Recommended Couches

living room remodel

With what I’m calling #CovidWinter quickly approaching, I’ve decided it’s time to UP the cozy game in my living room. While I adore my space, it’s never been a place I spend a ton of time in given my busy (pre-covid) schedule. I wasn’t often home for more than a few days at a time… Given that I plan to cozy up at home this Winter and won’t have a normal busy work or travel schedule… now is the time for some home updates. PLUS, I’m not spending on travel, clothing or entertainment (concerts, theatre, dining) like normal, so I’m going to re-allocate that money for some home updates! I figure that actually makes perfect sense! Why not invest in where I’ll be spending a large majority of time this Winter and make it even more of an oasis than it is now!?

You can tell from my Pinterest board “home” that my eye gravitates towards something pretty specific. Here’s some rooms that have inspired this living room transformation! Side note! Make sure to follow me on PINTEREST for tons of home inspo & more!

For reference, you can see my living space in THIS POST. I won’t be changing the styling of the shelves at all (with exception of switching out the center piece of art work). My shelves were styled last year by Fresh Twist Studio and I really love them. Plus, I think they still very much fit the vibe of my redesign. My couch will be a starting point for the whole makeover of the living space. The vibe is classic, boho & elegant but still very home-y. I polled all my trusty gals on couch recommendations and saw many repeats! So, if you’re looking for a new couch, check out the below list to see if any are a good fit for you!

SECTIONAL
After doing a lot of research and looking at what feels like thousands of off white sectionals, I’ve decided to return as a repeat customer from where I bought my first & current couch. My current couch is from Interior Define. A local, direct to consumer, made to order couch company. They now also make beds, chairs and rugs… they are all GORGEOUS and so tasteful. I’ve had my ID couch for 5 years and it still nearly looks perfect. The only problem? It’s small. I’ve decided Obi & I will need some room to sprawl this Winter so I’m looking into a new, larger couch. My favorite option is actually my same couch, The Sloan but in a larger version with a chaise (pictured above & linked below). What’s super cool about their pieces is that everything can be super customized. You can choose from tons of fabric options, lengths, depth of seat cushions, material and color of legs and even customize the length of the chaise. HERE IS THE SECTIONAL I’VE DECIDED ON!

RUG
In my opinion, a rug may be the most difficult decision in any room. I wanted something neutral, plush and well made. I also love the layering vibe with rugs so I’ve actually decided on two (pretty sure I’ll go through with the layering look). The first layer will be THIS JUTE RUG from Arhaus. It’s the perfect color & I’m really diggin’ the nubbiness. Also, it was important for me to have the jute rug I chose be soft and not harsh on bare feet (NO SHOES ALLOWED IN MY HOUSE)! HA! Now, for the plush rug, I decided on THIS WOOL RUG directly from the land of incredible, hand made rugs, Morocco. Ya’ll may know that the first time I went to Morocco was because I NEEDED to see these gorgeous works of art in person. ANWAYS. Buying Moroccan rugs in the USA is very expensive. The markup from US retailers is a little bonkers. So I wanted to go directly to the souce. I found THIS ETSY SHOP with almost 400 5 star reviews and tons of customizable options. It took a lot of research to find the place I wanted to buy from and recommend! I had a pretty clear vision of the rug I wanted and THIS ONE fits the bill just perfectly.

CHAIR
If you know my living room, you know that I have a gorgeous vintage chair that was my Bubby’s in there. I opted (for some reason) to do a hot pink velvet upholstery when I moved into my home 3+ years ago. While it’s super fun and looks amazing, it just doesn’t fit my space. I love the vibe of boucle (a few favorites linked below) and have decided to re-upholster this chair in a nubby, ivory, boucle fabric.

MIRROR
Right now, next to my TV I have a piece of art that I don’t think fits perfectly. I’m thinking THIS vintage looking mirror from Arhaus will fit really nicely and will also help make the space look bigger. Mirrors have a way of doing that. HA!

COFFEE TABLE
While I also adore my coffee table, I’m just feeling like a have too much shiny, guilded pieces in this space & I really want to warm it up. I’m going to opt for a natural woof coffee table and I love the shape and color of THIS ONE.

NEUTRAL SKETCH ART
Right now, in the center of my styled shelves, I have one of my favorite images that I took on the Amalfi coast. I love it but thinking something more neutral will fit this space better. I’ll be moving this piece into my bathroom and will be replacing it with THIS ABSTRACT PIECE in a white frame. I love the vibe and you can’t beat the price!

I’m super excited to revamp my living room with the fast approaching #CovidWinter and cozy up at home. All of this research wouldn’t have been possible without all of your amazing recommendations! I polled for couch brand recommendations and received HUNDREDS of responses. These were the brands that showed up over and over again. I hope this is helpful on your couch search!
