Spring Traditions: Social Distancing Style
Spring and warm weather is a BIG DEAL for us Midwesterners. Every year, I so look forward to my Spring traditions. This year may look a little different but I’m still practicing my Spring traditions, social distancing style. Wanted to share a couple great ideas for ways to enjoy this Spring/Summer even if it does look a little bit different.
Plant a garden: each year, I so look forward to sprucing up my “garden” in the city. This year, although I miss my city home and tiny balcony so much.. I wasn’t passing up the opportunity to plant my favorite petunias. SO! My mom and I made an afternoon of it and had so much fun. This is my third year planting Wave Petunias. They’re so beautifully colorful & bloom for a long time . Plus, they’re quite simple to take care of which is a big PLUS in my book. Makes gardening easy and fun! It’s actually Wave’s 25th anniversary this year too! This year, I also added some Beacon Impatients to our planters. They’re the perfect color pop for my parents balcony. I hope I’ll get back to Chicago in time to have my little garden in the city this year too.
Socially distanced walks with friends: Of course, we’re all really missing our friends right now. As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to grab your gals and take a long walk to catch up and check in on each other.
Picnic: pack up your own meal, grab a picnic blanket and meet your friends in a park! Just because you’re six feet apart doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time. It almost feels normal! Madison & I always look forward to park picnics in the Spring. Now, we’ll just meet there and bring our own food!
Get on the water! Live near a body of water? Boat, paddle board & kayak rentals are starting to open! Spend a day on the water with your quarantine crew and enjoy some fresh air!
Our new normal may be different, but it doesn’t have to be bad. Now that the weather is warming up, we have some amazing opportunities to enjoy the outside and see your friends from a safe distance. I encourage you all to SAFELY take advantage of the warmth and learn what will make you happy in our new normal. We’re strong and we are all in this together.
Happy Spring!
xx Ali
