My First Look + Behind The Scenes From Day 1 of NYFW
Just about the only time I don’t despise a 4am wake up call is when it’s because I’m headed to NYFW. Day 1 this year went pretty seamlessly (did you see my post about what a hot mess my first day was last year?! Read it HERE). NYFW 2017 started off with calling an uber at 4:30am and picking up Ashley and Olivia to head to the airport. After a power nap on the plane and voila we were in NYC by 9am!
We headed to our hotel and because we arrived so early, our room was, of course, not ready. So, we improvised. We used the hotel fitness center, which luckily was empty, to freshen up, change and get Fashion week ready. Day 1 was a busy one so first things first, we grabbed coffee and some grub. [Quick side note/pro tip: when traveling I always use my Raise App to help save money. You can save on hotel stays, Starbucks cards, food, you name it. It’s a great way to help save especially when traveling because things add up so quickly. So, I used Raise to buy a discounted Starbucks card to put towards the much needed coffee for the 5 days in NYC. (Get $20 off a minimum of $40 on Raise using code: ALI20 *new members only*)]
Post coffee and salad we headed to the fabulous Shopbop Fall preview. This event was really amazing. Not only was there a full preview of all of Falls biggest trends but there were interactive sets for photo ops, DIY stations and the best part, a collaboration with a local animal shelter to help get NYC pups adopted! Touché, Shopbop. You nailed it. Some of my favorite Fall trends that I saw at the preview?… ruffles, heavy metals (studs and chains), and lots of pinks and deep yellows.
From there, we headed to the Bollare offices for their NYFW event. We customized some Wrangler denim, got makeup touch ups by the talented Kevin Aucoin team and had way too much fun playing with their perfect disco ball setup. I also discovered Pared Eyewear which is quickly becoming a new fave.
From there we headed to Soho where I had a quick meeting and then we shot our day 1 looks in the cobblestone streets of Soho (my favorite area in NYC) which is what you’re seeing here. This look was arguably my favorite look that I created for Fashion Week this season. (you can shop it below) THIS dress was the perfect mix of sophisticated and fun. With the high neck, open back, subtle polka dots and the asymmetrical hemline… it was a great starting point. I loved the idea of red accents to play off the navy and white base. I opted for a red lip, red shoe and bag with red details (we started a new term while at fashion week as well… “F.W.B.” = Friends With Bags. This gorgeous Gucci is Ashley’s and the 3 of us we’re rotating bags all week long) . These added the perfect pop. I decided to accentuate the waistline of the dress a bit with a corset belt. In my opinion, it added just what the look needed. The look was fairly simple but all the details pulled it together nicely. I was kind of sad when day 1 was over and was tempted to wear this exact look another day… but I held back.
After shooting, we took a much needed power nap and had a super fun dinner at a great little place called Macao in TriBeCa. It’s a great bar with a small restaurant in the back with amazing asian inspired food. We toasted to being able to be together in NYC and were ready to take on the week.

There will be much more NYFW content from the rest of the week coming your way soon! I have also created a SHOP page where you can shop everything I wore during NYFW! Find it HERE.
