My Family's Holiday Traditions
As you may know, hanukkah always falls at a different time and it's rare that it falls over Christmas. We celebrate all 8 nights, but every year, my family does one big night of Hanukkah where we do the whole shebang. Chicken noodle soup, latkes, apple sauce, dreidl... It's always a festive fun night! We always joke with each other because we get asked all the time by people what in the world we Jews do on Christmas Eve... and this tradition is one of our favorites.
Over 30 years ago, my Mom opened the college bar in Madison called Monday's (if you've ever been to Madison you probably know it as the place with the strongest drinks... If you've never been to Madison, add Monday's to your to do list). On Christmas Eve, we and all of our Jewish family friends meet at Monday's for our annual dart tournament and carry in Chinese food. We queue up the juke box, keep the drinks full and have the best night, every year.
This year I'm absolutely wearing my "you little horah" tank from Unkosher Market. They make the most hysterical t-shirt, tanks and sweatshirts that swap out english for Yiddish words with the funniest results. Some of my favorites are THIS one, of course: "You Little Horah". Incase you don't know, the Horah is a celebratory jewish dance that's done at weddings and bat and bar mitzvahs. Ever seen someone get lifted in a chair on the dance floor? Yup. That's the one. I also love, You Tefillin' It? and Schmuck Off! Find them all HERE. I paired my tank with my favorite faux leather leggings, my new adorable shoes from Kelsi Dagger, the béret I've been wearing practically every day, and my favorite coat that was my Bubby's. Oh how she would laugh if she saw this shirt!
Happy third night of Hanukkah, everyone!!! Scroll down to shop my look and shop Unkosher Market HERE. Seriously guys... this is the funniest gift for all of your jewish friends!
