One Of My Favorite Accessories This Season & How The One Piece Doubled My Coat Collection
Living in Chicago, we have no choice but to wear a jacket every. single. day in the Wintertime. I won’t lie, I have a big love for jackets and I have a lot of them. They can make or break an outfit, and until we have to put on our big puffers (which sure are hard to make cute) why don’t we have fun with them!? Now, if I could, I would buy multiple new jackets every season and wear a different one every day… But let’s be real… Most of us don’t have that kind of cash. This year, I didn’t buy any new jackets, but instead… I bought the fur scarf I’m wearing here and INSTANTLY doubled my coat collection! I’ve been wearing it on my wool coats (like the one I”m wearing here), my leather jackets and even my denim jackets! It's created such a different look and completely changes the look of any jacket!
For this look, I wanted to build off this fun chevron coat which I bought last year at Zara (I found a few very similar ones which are linked below). First, I added some drama by putting the fur collar on over it. It makes the inexpensive jacket look SO luxe! I decided it was time to step outside of my comfort zone a little and channel one of my favorite fashionistas, Jenna Lyons who is a pro at pattern mixing (example). I decided to go for THIS unexpected pant choice (under $20!!!). A plaid cropped wide leg pant with overall like straps. Since neither the jacket nor the pants had much color, the patterns seemed to mix pretty well! I opted for a light colored, simple turtleneck underneath (MINE is from uniqlo, it’s so inexpensive and I’ve been LIVING in it. It comes in tons of colors too) to contrast the dark collar of the jacket. I paired the look with THESE cute comfy velvet heeled loafers by DVF from Shopbop. To top the look off, I added THESE fun, nerdy frames which I’m obsessed with! I have 20/20 vision but think glasses are the CUTEST accessory. So, I do have a couple pairs (this pair is only $5!!!) with no prescription so I can feel like I’m a part of the cute glasses train. HA!
