5 ways to help create a Fall outfit when it still feels like Summer
Sure, it might be September... But yesterday in Chicago it was still over 90 degrees!!! I don't know about you, but I look forward to dressing for Fall. It is hands down my favorite season to dress for. Once September hits, I'm so ready to whip out my sweaters and leather pants... Easier said than done when it's still scorching outside! I've been thinking of good ways to put together Fall outfits (since they're my favorite kind) even though it still feels like summer. These are five of my favorite (and simplest) ways to do so!
1. Trade in your cutoffs for a faux leather skirt or pair or shorts
Nothing quite screams Summer like a pair of denim cutoffs, and you very well know that I live in mine all summer long! A super simple way to make your outfit feel a little more like Fall is to swap out the denim cutoffs for a different material, faux leather and wool are two of my go-to options. Choose a faux leather skirt, faux leather pair of shorts or a cute wool skirt or pair of shorts to instantly make your outfit feel less Summery.
2. Opt for a sleeveless sweater
Instead of your go-to Summer cotton tank, opt for a sleeveless sweater (choose a breathe-able material like a cotton or poly blend so you don't get too hot). The texture this brings to the outfit makes it feel a lot more like fall than if you would have chosen a cotton tank.
3. Add a medium-dark lip color and a few dark accessories
A darker lip instantly makes any outfit feel like fall. Plus, it brings a nice touch of color! My favorite is Nars, Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga or Mascate. It stays on all day! Add in leather accessories that are darker in color to keep the Fall vibes going. I love my Daniel Wellington Classic York Watch, it's the perfect sophisticated accessory and great addition for any Fall outfit! Use code: ALIALISTONE for 15% off your Daniel Wellington order!
4. Go for a little more coverage
Choose a midi length for a skirt or a more tailored, longer short (I also love a good pair of culottes) and pair it with a wide strap tank. You'll still stay as cool as you would in a mini skirt or shorter shorts but your look will be much less Summery!
5. Stick to neutrals
Stay away from bright colors that scream: SUMMER! Instead, choose blacks, grays, ivory and camel colors to bring together a sophisticated Fall look.
